MY IRISH CONNECTION In the mid 17th Century the D'Ossines of France went to Ireland where they became prominent in County Monaghan. They also became Dawsons over the course of time.
My ancestor Richard Dawson established Dawson's Grove near the chain of lakes dividing Counties Monaghan and Cavan in Ireland.
Lieutenant Colonel the Right Honourable Thomas Vessey Dawson, Coldstream Guards who fell at the Battle of Inkerman in the Crimean War on the 5th of November, 1854 was a great-grandnephew of the first Baron, so he was the son of Richard Thomas Dawson (1788-1855). Still standing today is a granite obilesk memorial, built in 1857 at Dartrey in the county of Monaghan.
In 1801 Richard Dawson was two years old.....with his family he left Ireland and settled in Prince Edward Island, Canada.
To tell the story properly I would need more than a webpage....but simply put my grandmother, Elvina Dawson, married a McNeil.
My mother, Ruby McNeil married my dad, Guy Austin.......and in a nutshell.......this is my IRISH CONNECTION.
I've never been to Ireland.
Should you ever find yourself in County Monaghan please take a photo of the Memorial to Colonel Dawson. I'd love to have it to display on this page. Thanks.
A big THANK YOU to Grace and Terry Donaldson of New Zealand for directing me to the site where I was able to capture these photos of the Obelisk, Memorial to Colonel Dawson situate in Monaghan County, Ireland.
